I’m proud to say that I’ve been an Evernight author since August 2013 when the debut novella, Chasing Matt, co-written with the lovely Eileen Griffin released:

I’m pleased to bring you an excerpt from my latest Evernight title, Saving Sam, part of the multi-author Purgatory Inc, series.

When Ezekiel the Watcher Angel, requested a promotion he wasn’t expecting Steve, his boss and Higher Power to command him to bring back Azazel, Death’s assistant. Throw in the devil in a blue dress, a looming deadie apocalypse and a partner in an Archangel named Sam and Zeke might just earn his Guardian wings.

I looked up from my clipboard and froze. Standing in front of me, radiating divine power, was an older man with long white hair pulled back into a ponytail. He wore board shorts, a T-shirt, and flip-flops, and reading glasses hung from a chain draped around his neck. With a smile on his friendly face, he didn’t look like the higher power hundreds of religions called Heavenly Father, but more like a kindly hippie grandfather.

I pushed to my feet and promptly tripped over the length of my wings. In my most mortifying moment, God caught my arm and saved me from a face-plant onto the ugly industrial carpet. “Oh, God. Shit. Jesus.”

He chuckled and brushed me off. “Don’t worry. Not the first time I’ve heard My name. You should hear this place around Valentine’s Day.”

I blinked.

“As for Jesus? My Son works in accounting. You should introduce yourself sometime and bring them donuts. Nothing excites accounting like free sugar.”

“Yes, sir.”

He flinched at my words, and I closed my eyes, sending up a silent prayer. To where, I had no clue, as The Man was standing in front of me. At this rate he no doubt planned to bust my ass down to angelic lawn statue.

“Whoa there, partner. We’re pretty informal around here. Can I call you Zeke?”

I nodded. “Yes, sir.”

The Supreme Being smiled and patted me on the back, and I swallowed hard.

“I mean, yes, sir, God, sir.”

The man snorted. “Just call me Steve.” He gave me a once-over, and I wondered if my khakis and polo shirt were workplace appropriate. “Walk with me, Zeke. Oh, and unfurl the wings a little. You’re harshing my spiritual buzz.” Without another word he turned and took off down a hallway, the sounds of his flip-flops echoing.

I hurried to catch up, cursing my clumsiness.

“As you can see, there isn’t a formal dress code while in the office. Most of the staff favor business casual so they don’t have to change before golf in the afternoon. There’s a coffeemaker in the break room. Just don’t leave empty creamer containers in the fridge without replacing them. The last guy who did that lost his head. Literally.”

“Sorry?” I squeaked.

“Oh, don’t worry. We found it again, but the archs get cranky when they don’t get their caffeine. How many times do I have to tell them to leave the swords at home when they’re not out in the field?”

“Yep, don’t mind them too much. They’re usually more bark than bite.”

As we walked down the hallway, I caught glimpses of beings seated at desks in cubicles. Some were speaking into headsets, some drinking coffee, and one was tossing pencils at the ceiling. It seemed just like every other office I’d ever seen on Earth. Except for the wings.

“This is the Heavenly side of the pod, by the way. Through that door over there is our counterpart. Some of the staff call them the baddies, but they’re not all bad. Except Cerebus keeps peeing on my rug. Damned dog.” He stopped in front of an office and gestured for me to enter.

“Thanks,” I mumbled as I opened the door. I stopped short with surprise, and Steve bumped into me.

Slumped on a chair in front of a large desk was a huge male of obvious celestial rank. His inky black wings fluttered, then folded, blending in with his leather jacket and black jeans. His dirty biker boots, which he’d propped on the desk, were encrusted with dirt and blood, and I swallowed down a wave of fear.

When he met my gaze, something I’d never felt before flooded my system: lust. Or disgust… possibly a mixture of the two.

The man grinned at me, a flash of white teeth against his darkly handsome features. “Oh, this is going to be good.” He purred in a low growly voice. “Fresh meat.”

Now for my contribution:

The following excerpt takes place one month after the events in “Waking Up Wolf” (Evernight’s Alpha’s Claim Anthology: Manlove Edition).

In his wolf form, Adam raised his muzzle and inhaled, the million scents hitting his enhanced senses on overload. His brain automatically identified each one individually, sorting through the ones he’d smelled before and cataloged the new to ponder later. As a human he’d never considered how limited his frail human body really was.

“What do you smell?” Grady’s wolf voice floated through Adam’s mind.

“I smell pine trees, a heard of whitetail upwind and somewhere a bear is taking the proverbial shit in the woods.”

As he stood next to Adam, Grady’s wolf form made a chuffing noise and Adam supposed it passed for the wolf form of laughter. Or disgust. He wasn’t quite sure. Still new to the changeling way of life, his alpha was slowly teaching him how to harness his wolf form and use it to the best of his ability.

“Anything else? Apart from bear scat?”

“I smell something…something inexplicable. Let me shift and I can explain it better.” If Adam’s wolf snout could have properly conveyed a smirk he’d have stayed shifted, but at the moment after a long day of patrol with Grady he wanted a break.

Without another word he changed, feeling his bones and sinews snap and crackle as he felt his body shift from four legged wolf to upright human. He barely noticed any pain as Grady had advised it only got easier with practice. Well, as much practice as one could have rearranging their molecules one split second at a time.

Adam opened his eyes, breathing in deep as he felt the chill of the pre-dawn mountain air hit his bare skin. The hair on his arms and legs rose as goose bumps covered his skin and his nipples hardened.

Next to him, Grady’s human voice rumbled, “What did you need to explain that you couldn’t in wolf?”

When he turned to face his mate and Alpha, Adam let the smirk curl his lips. “I smelled something mouthwatering.”

This time Grady’s chuckle echoed in the night air unheeded by his wolf form. “You are so transparent. If you wanted a break, all you had to do was say so.”

He didn’t object when Adam looped his arms around Grady’s neck, pulling him closer for a kiss. Adam swallowed down a sigh of pleasure as the bare lengths of their bodies pressed together. Another perk of changeling status, the inability to wear clothing as wolves left them bare when they changed to human form.

“We’ve been patrolling all night. I think we’re due a break.”

“Adam, you know the trues pack was last sighted over that ridge. It’s my responsibility to keep everyone safe.”

“I know.” Adam smoothed his palms down Grady’s chest and smiled up at his mate, loving how his handsome face almost glowed in the bright light of the full moon.

In all that had happened, the radioactive leak that had brought on the end of the world as they knew it and turned the human population into shape shifting wolves he’d thought he’d die alone. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined he’d become the mate of the man he’d had a major crush on for years. After Grady had saved him from certain death at the teeth of the pack of true born wolves or trues he’d never imagined that his alpha had returned the feelings which had turned into a deeper bond.

“You take such good care of the group. You just need to remember to take care of yourself sometimes.”

Grady’s blue eyes shined in the light of the waning moon. “I have to take care of you first, Adam. You’re mine.”

Adam’s breath caught in his chest. Every time he heard Grady say the words, they hit him with the force of a freight train sending lust and love and a host of more primitive emotions surging through his body.

“You always take care of me, my Alpha. Always. Since the first time you claimed me.” Adam leaned in to brush his lips over Grady’s, loving the shiver that wracked his mate as the ends of one of his long dark Dred’s ticked his alpha’s shoulder.

As Grady wrapped his strong arms around Adam, he let out a low breathy sound as their bodies moved closer. “You had to mention me claiming you now?”

Adam felt a flash of heat settle low in his belly as Grady’s erection rubbed against his own. “How could I not? Especially with us alone here in the middle of the mountains, no nosy eyes around to see us like this.”

Grady moaned as Adam slowly rocked his hips, rubbing the length of his hardened cock against his. Adam kissed Grady’s chin, neck, moving lower as Grady’s eyes closed and head dropped back.

“No one knocking on our door at all hours, interrupting us.”

As he smoothed his palms down Grady’s muscular chest, kissing his collarbone Adam knew he’d almost convinced his mate to abandon their current patrol and take a few moments for themselves. His soft moan in response as Grady’s fingers closed around his erection made his breath stutter out as he froze. His hungry lips slammed into Adam’s as he nudged him downward, both of them dropping to their knees.

Strength. Power. Domination.

The shifters in our Alpha’s Claim: Manlove Edition anthology have one thing in common—they won’t take “no” for an answer. Whether they lead packs of their own, or whether they walk a solitary path, these alphas won’t let anyone stop them from claiming their men.

Lose yourself in these ten sinfully delicious love stories. After all, who could deny an Alpha’s claim?

When a radioactive leak in the local water source turns the inhabitants of Adam Baker’s small town into shape shifting wolves, he manages to hold and survive alone–alone except for the wolves he hears in the distance. When he doesn’t immediately undergo “the change” into a wolf himself, he begins to believe he’s immune. After his dreams begin to include another wolf, he finds himself drawn to the howls outside his window and the pack’s alpha Grady Conway.

Adam watched him carefully. “You don’t even know me. Why would you invite me back with your family, your pack?”

Grady looked down. “What if I told you we needed you? That I needed you?”

Adam stared at him like he’d gone crazy.

“Me? Why would you need me?”

A true alpha needs a mate.” Grady raised his head, meeting Adam’s eyes, and for a moment he couldn’t look away.

“And you think I’m your mate?”

“I don’t think. I know. You’re my mate, always have been.”

Adam backed away, and he felt himself shake and pain shoot through his body as he fell to his knees. Naked and sprawled in the dirt he stared up at Grady, who closed his eyes and shifted, leaving himself bare as well.

Adam swallowed hard as he stared up at Grady in shock. This close he could see every single inch of the tanned and toned body of the man who commanded a pack. Muscled and imposing, he stared down at Adam, his blue eyed gaze heated.

Without another word, Grady took a step closer, sliding his hand over the top of Adam’s head possessively. He slowly wrapped his hand around Adam’s long dark dreads and pulled his head back, exposing his neck. Adam’s eyes slammed shut as he waited for Grady to change and wolf teeth to tear out his throat. Instead, when Grady’s human teeth sank into his shoulder he shuddered and cried out.

Pleasure/pain surged through Adam’s body as he jerked awake, his cock throbbing as he felt hot cum stripe his belly. His legs shook as he panted for breath, his bed sheets and body soaked with sweat.

His dreams had never been that vivid before, and when he shifted his body his muscles screamed in protest and he flopped back with a moan.

When he yanked back the blankets he stared.

His feet were dirty, caked in mud along with his hands. On his neck, he could feel Grady’s teeth marks.

He’d been marked by the alpha.
