Coming Soon to Evernight Publishing ~ Open World – C.O.V.E.N. by Casey Moss
Due to release in May 2014 is Open World – C.O.V.E.N. by Casey Moss. The world of C.O.V.E.N. (Clans of Vegas – Endless Night) first appeared in Evernight Publishing’s anthology Keyboards & Kink (available here: http://www.evernightpublishing.com/keyboards-and-kink/ & at other fine e-tailers) in Casey’s story, AFK.
In AFK, we saw a peek into I-D-8 Entertainment’s in-production MMORPG: Clans of Vegas – Endless Night, also known as C.O.V.E.N. when Beth and another gamer got sucked into the game for real.
Now, in Open World, the employees have joined together for a LAN party to test the game. For definitions on the computer gaming term open world, check out http://www.techopedia.com/definition/3952/sandbox-gaming). Here’s a look into the story…
The world has broken out in wars. Las Vegas has been ravaged by chemical warfare and is now home to several clans and creatures.
Welcome to I-D-8 Entertainment’s newest game: Clans of Vegas—Endless Night.
Friends and family have gathered for a crunch time playtest of C.O.V.E.N.. When a horrible thunderstorm hits, everyone’s sucked into the game for real. In the MMORPG, Hope Collins is kidnapped by Buzz and forced to submit to his whims. Her boyfriend, Alden, has to delay his quest of defeating a clan’s prince to save her, but time and circumstance don’t seem to be on his side. Faith Collins is bombarded by strange dreams brought on by Buzz. Her boyfriend, Tavis, learns to dream walk, but can he help break the spell she’s under and save her before she’s lost to him?
C.O.V.E.N. is more than just a game. It’s a whole other world.

Q & A with Casey:
What inspired your latest release?
~ It started with an anthology call from Evernight Publishing for their anth Keyboards and Kink. I created a MMORPG story for it called AFK. Since I had rights back on several other stories, I re-did the first two to make the story, Open World, I’m promoting today.
What is your favorite book?
~ That’s hard. I’ve read so many books over the years. I am a Rice fan so any of her books could answer this question.
What is your favorite book YOU’VE written?
~ It’s out-of-print right now, but once was called Beautiful People. I’ve slowly been re-working the erotic horror story. If you visit my website, it’s called The Beautiful. One of these days, the story will see the light of the world again.
If you had to rec one of your books to someone who hasn’t read anything of yours yet, what would it be?
~ Read AFK in the anthology. Or, if you keep in mind that my writing has evolved over the years, feel free to read my first ever full novel, Tracked.
What’s a piece of advice you have for aspiring writers out there?
~ Learn the craft, from grammar to story building and everything in between. Adhere to the rules for a while. Once you do that, then you’ll understand how and when to break the rules and really let your creativity thrive. After learning the craft, start promoting yourself before the first story is picked up/published. And if you’re going the e-book route through e-book publishers, get two or three places under your belt right away. If you’re doing the independent route (or e-publisher even), perhaps finishing two or three books first before you send book one out to the world would be a good idea. This way you don’t have to rush in starting to build a back list and can space out the publications of the ones you already have done while you work on more. But on top of knowing about writing mechanics, learning about marketing and promotion and getting that going is just as important.
Do you listen to music when you write?
~ Depends upon my mood and the piece I’m working on. Sometimes just the television is on in the background. Sometimes I listen to spa music, or alternative music, or country music.
Name one author who has inspired you.
~ Stephen King
What’s one thing you wish you’d done differently while writing your latest release?
~ Since I’m in edits, I get to fix a few things, like hopefully adding in some more action/fight scenes.
What’s your favorite thing about the characters in your latest release?
~ They’re strong and smart. It might take some time for some of them to stretch their wings so to say and figure out what to do, but when they do, watch out. 🙂
