Grime and Punishment by Z.A. Maxfield
If you’re a fan of CSI and m/m romance novels, Grime and Punishment by Z.A. Maxfield is the book for you.
Former firefighter, Jack Masterson’s death scene clean up business, Grime and Punishment is his way of helping people move on after they experience trauma and loss after he’s critically injured in a major fire several years back. When Jack gets the call about his first love Nick Foasberg’s suicide as a possible clean up he’s sent into an emotional tailspin.
Nick’s cousin Ryan Halloran, a male nurse was the last one who tried to help Nick. Unfortunately he’s also the first person on the scene who found Nick. Both seeking closure, Jack and Ryan agree to clean the scene together.
Despite the circumstances, heat and humor flare between the two and some of the best scenes of this book were Ryan and Jack connecting on a personal level.
Even though this book deals with some heavy themes as addiction and suicide, the lighter moments of humor, the secondary characters and even Jack’s temporary cat, Tasha bring moments of humor and levity into what could otherwise be a very serious story.
This was my first read by Z.A. Maxfield and I will definitely be checking out her other titles.
